A Chocolate Strawberry Smoothie is a quick, yet decadent way to start the day! Enjoy this easy recipe for a delicious to-go breakfast.
Thoughts of my day's to-do list usually float past my eyelids long before they open. I dream of decadent, well-planned breakfast each morning, but it's usually low on the priority list as I struggle to get the family ready and out of the house on time.
When time is running short, it's important to get in the essential nutrients without the fanfare. To be completely honest, I would rather eat something with more substance (eggs, french toast, corned beef hash, etc...), but some days that is simply not in the cards.
While I do like smoothies, I think their expected health benefits are a bit misleading. Sure, they're packed full of vitamins and minerals from fruits and veggies. Yes, they are quick and easy. However, I find most recipes to be an unbalanced mix of excess calories, lots of carbohydrate and sugar, with too little protein to keep me full. I often find myself hungry shortly after slurping down a morning smoothie, leading me to eat more than I normally would.
Since most of my readers are trying to maintain or lose weight, here's the disclaimer: If you choose a high-calorie smoothie like this one, just be conscious about how this fits into your overall energy needs for the day.
